On December 29-January 2, the North Korean
media reported that Kim Jong Un chaired the 5th plenary meeting of the
7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) from
December 29 to January 1; posed for a photo with members of the
central leadership organization of the WPK on January 1; and visited
the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun along with them on January 2 as the New
Year began.
On December 28, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong gave field guidance at the Pyongyang Electronic Medical
Appliances Factory, a timber mill in Pyeongyang, and the Sunchon
Engine Factory.
On January 2, the North Korean media reported that Kim Jong Un gave
children food provisions to greet the New Year.
On January 3, the North Korean media emphasized that the basic idea
and the basic spirit of the 5th plenary meeting of the 7th WPK Central
Committee is to conduct the offensive for a frontal breakthrough.

On December 28, the North Korean media
cited South Korea’s introduction of state-of-the-art weapons including
F-35A fighters as the cause of the deterioration in relations.
