1. Internal Affairs

o Chairman Kim Jong-il has recently visited the People's Army Unit No. 756, accompanied by generals Lee Myeong-soo, Hyun Cheol-hae and Park Jae-gyeong, according to the Korean Central News Agency on Nov.2.

o The Minju Joson, an organ of the North Korean cabinet, criticized on Oct. 20 that the U.S. has been engaged in an ideological and cultural invasion to blow liberal bourgeois winds into North Korea to pollute their healthy ideological conscience.

o The Korean Central News Agency said on Nov. 1 that the land realignment work is being carried out vigorously in the provinces, cities and counties of the North on the occasion of the autumnal land rearrangement period.

o In a Nov. 1 editorial of the Rodong Sinmun entitled Let's Pull Off Greater Victory with the Force of Single-Minded Unity, the significances of single-minded unity and safeguarding leadership with a do-or-die spirit were underscored.

o According to the November issue of the monthly Jogook (Fatherland), the North has been operating a three-story Advanced Technology Service Center since the opening on April 1 this year. The building located in Pyongyang is equipped with its own Internet Service Provider (ISP) system.

o The Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported on Oct. 30 that the Pyongyang Poultry Confederation had been engaged in a campaign to increase output of eggs and meat by modernizing chicken and duck factories.

o Based on chairman Kim Jong-il's ideological theory that Songs are Humanics, the Minju Joseon stressed the role of songs in revolutions and struggles on Oct. 26.

2. Inter-Korean Relations

o In connection with the remarks by a South Korean national security advisor to the President during a parliamentary audit that he was considering to tone down the description of North Korea from main enemy to main threat, the North claimed that these descriptions were different only in expressions, but the same in substance, according to the Korean Central Broadcasting Station on Oct. 29.

o Radio Pyongyang reported on Oct. 30 that the South's first parliamentary audit of the 17th National Assembly was a departure from the framework for mutual cooperation, a standard for the inter-Korean relationship, and the audit revealed South Korean authorities' ambition to achieve unification through absorption of North Korea.

o In connection with the South Korean Navy's warning shots to North Korean gunboats that violated the border on the West Sea, the Korean Central Television Broadcasting Station claimed on Nov. 2 that the South Korean warships perpetrated a reckless provocation. It urged that the South Korean authorities should punish the commanders for the warning shots and take steps to prevent reoccurrence of similar actions.

3. External Affairs

o In a report entitled Uncover and Punish the Evil Empire of the 21st Century, the Korean Central Broadcasting Station and Radio Pyongyang vehemently criticized on Oct. 29 that the policies of the Bush Administration reflected imperialistic tendencies to dominate over the world with force.

o The Korean Central Broadcasting Station said on Nov. 1 that the key to the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue was whether the United States would drop its hostile policy toward North Korea. It also claimed that the resumption of the six-party talks depended on whether the United States was ready to review various conditions that the North has proposed.

o A government cultural delegation led by Hong Son-ok, vice chairwoman of the Committee for Culture Relations with Foreign Countries, left Pyongyang for Syria, according to Radio Pyongyang on Nov. 2.
