Chairman Kim Jong-il, accompanied by Kim Il-cheol, director of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, enjoyed a performance by the arts propaganda squad under the People's army unit 966 and army unit 337, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24.

A commemorative briefing session on the 40th anniversary of the release of Kim Il-sung's arduous work `To exert great power for a living through unified and detailed people's economic planning.' was held in People's Palace of Culture on Sep.23 with Premier Park Bong-ju attending, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24.

The ceremonies of starting their operations were held after the construction of Hui-cheon Hard Glassware Factory located in Jagang-do and the Fifth Huiryong mine, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 29 and 30. The 2.8 Vinylon Complex Enterprise also started manufacturing caustic soda in a city of Hamheung.

A hand-operated reserve's construction was completed in a city of Hamheung in Hannam Province. The trial running of water through the entire waterway from Baekma to Cheolsan was carried out successfully, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24.

The North Korean authorities and related organizations, including Cultural Preservation Guidance Bureau, Korean Buddhists Federation, Academy of Social Sciences, and the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland's executive office, held a meeting and formed a committee to bring Bukkwandaechubbi (an ancient stone tablet) back from Japan, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24.

The Pyongyang International Bowling Games was opened at the Pyongyang Bowling Hall on Sep. 28 with athletes from North Korea, China, and Hong Kong attending, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 28.

Inter-Korean Affairs

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland's spokesperson, through his commentary, urged South Korea to scrap tunnel tourism which poses obstacles to the implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration and development of inter-Korean relations, according to the Central Television Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 23.

For implementation of the spirit of the June 15 Joint Declaration, a folk cultural festival was held at Mt.Geumgang from Sep. 28 to 29 with the participation of a delegation from the northern part of Gangwon Province headed by Go Jong-duk, chairman of the Gangwon People's Committee, and a South Gangwon delegation headed by governor Kim Jin-sun, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 30.

Foreign Affairs

Choi Su-hon, Vice Minister of North Korean Foreign Ministry, criticized the U.S's hostile policy toward North Korea and expressed its view against the U.S's position on the resolution of North Korean nuclear programs, and Japan's bid to become a member in the U.S Security Council at the 60th general session of the U.N General Assembly.

A North Korean representative made a request for provision of a light water reactor as a proof to recognize North Korea's actual and peaceful nuclear activities in the general session of Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Sep. 22, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 27.

A North Korean delegation headed by Yang Hyung-seop, vice chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, paid a visit to Cuba from Sep. 22 to Sep. 27 and to Venezuela from Sep. 27 onwards, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesman announced that Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi will pay a visit to North Korea from Oct. 8 to 11 to attend celebrative events on the 60th anniversary of the (North) Korean Workers' Party establishment and a ceremony for the completion of Daean Friendship Glass Factory.

Doonglin Trading Corporation in a city of Hunchun, Hunchun Corporation for Border Economic Cooperation Bond Zone, and a North Korean Economic Cooperation Company under the Nasun People's Committee, formed a joint venture fund and established a joint company called the Nasun International Logistics Cooperative Corporation, according to the Xinhwa News Agency on Sep.22.

The North Korean Foreign Culture Liaison Committee and the DPRK-China Friendship Association held a commemorative banquet on the 56th anniversary of the establishment of a Chinese regime at Koryeo hotel in Pyongyang on Sep. 28. The Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK also held a celebrative feast in Okryu restaurant on Sep. 29, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 29 and 30.

A North Korean Party Friendship delegation headed by Kim Nam-cheol, secretary of the Pyongyang Party Committee departed for China on Sep. 24, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 24. On the same day, Moon Il-bong Minister of Finance led a DPRK-Mongolia Friendship Association delegation to visit Mongolia. A delegation from the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection headed by Vice Minister Kim Kyoung-joon also departed from Pyongyang to attend the conference on disaster reduction in Asia.

Former chief of staff of the United Kingdom's army Daebritain, senator Gassri and his suite from the Northern Ireland's Assembly arrived at Pyongyang on Sep. 24. A delegation from the South African Foreign Ministry and a Chosun delegation from Chongryun, the general association of North Korean residents in Japan arrived at Pyongyang on Sep. 24.

A delegation from the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry arrived at Pyongyang on Sep. 27 while the South African Foreign Ministry delegation left on the same day, according to the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 27.
