[Internal Affairs]

o Kim Jong-un gave field guidance at △ the Wonsan Shoe Factory and △ KPA Services' drill for hitting enemy naval targets; had photo sessions with △ fighter jet pilots and △ the attendants to the meeting of military and political cadres for summing up the results of construction in 2014 and persons of merit in the KPA on major construction projects; toured △ an exhibition of utensils and tools arranged by the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces; and went on a guidance tour of △ a cosmetics factory in Pyongyang. [Inter-Korean Affairs]

o On February 4, in a Q&A session between the spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland with a KCNA reporter, North Korea stated that “The South Korean government has to get out of the grip of the U.S. and show its will to improve inter-Korean relations by taking practical and credible actions.” (According to KCNA on February 4)

o On February 5, in a statement made by the spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, North Korea criticized the memoirs of former President Lee Myung-bak, saying that “He behaved indecently by distorting the process of closed contacts between the South and the North and slandering the North.” (According to KCNA on February 5)

o On February 6, in a Q&A session between the spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland and a KCNA reporter, regarding President Park’s remarks on North Korea, the North argued that “If the South has the will to engage in dialogue with the North, it should mind what it does and says.” (According to KCNA on February 6)

[Foreign Affairs]

o In a Q&A session between the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry and a KCNA reporter, North Korea claimed that “it’s preposterous to say that the U.S. keeps the dialogue channel open,” saying that Washington rejected its proposal for Special Representative for North Korea Policy Sung Kim’s visit to Pyongyang. (According to KCNA on February 1)

o In a Q&A session between the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry and a KCNA reporter, North Korea welcomed the negotiations between the Syrian government and the rebel group, arguing that “The Syrian issue should be addressed by the Syrian people politically and peacefully without foreign interference.” (According to KCNA on February 2)

o On February 2, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong sent letters to the UN Secretary General and the President of the UN General Assembly urging that “The UN General Assembly’s human rights resolution should be revoked since it was based on false data,” in reference to North Korean defector Shin Dong-hyuk’s reversal of testimony.
