【Internal Affairs】
From June 25 to July 1, the North Korean media reported Kim Jong Un’s public activities as follows: Kim 1) posed for a commemorative photo with those involved with the successful launch of a mid-range ballistic missile, 2) attended the fourth session of the 13th Supreme People’s Assembly and was appointed as the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, and 3) met a special envoy of Raul Castro.
 
On June 24, the North Korean media reported that the DPRK government is taking steps to prevent damage from the monsoon season, which is forecast to begin in the middle of July.
 
On June 29, the North Korean media reported that North Korea held the fourth session of the 13th Supreme People’s Assembly and appointed Kim Jong Un as the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission.

【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On June 25, the North Korean media reported that the Policy Department of the National Defense Commission argued, in a detailed report, that “Setting the fair and objective maritime military demarcation line in the West Sea will eliminate the root cause of confrontation and conflict,” and called on “the United States and South Korea to admit responsibility for turning the West Sea of Korea into the hottest spot waters and to stop military provocations.”
 
On June 25, the North Korean media reported that the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, in a statement, criticized the ROK President by name for introducing a performance-based pay system, and instigated an anti-government fight.
 
On June 25, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, in a statement, continued to insist that the group defection of overseas North Korean restaurant workers was “an act of kidnapping” by the South Korean authorities and reiterated its request that they “be returned to their families immediately.”
 
On June 27, the North Korean media reported that the North Side Preparatory Committee for Holding a Great National Conference for Reunification was formed in Pyongyang and open letters were delivered to the South Korean and foreign authorities, political parties, organizations, and important figures.
 
On June 30, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland (CPRF) argued, in a statement, that the U.S. should recognize that the North’s strategic status has fundamentally changed, boasted of its successful launch of a mid-range ballistic missile, and called on Washington to “change its hostile policy toward the DPRK.”

【Foreign Affairs】
On June 25, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Q&A session with KCNA reporters (June 24), denounced the UNSC’s statement released to the press “criticizing the Musudan (Hwasong-10) missile launch” (June 23) and emphasized that it would strengthen its nuclear and missile program.
 
On June 30, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened, in a statement, that it would “further strengthen its self-defensive nuclear deterrent” in response to the U.S.’s remarks on sanctions regarding the Musudan missile launch.
