August 3 Consumer Goods: August 3 Consumer Goods refer to the goods made at factories and enterprises and by housewives’ work teams with unused materials, waste, and by-products. These goods are not included in the national production plan. North Korea has been carrying out the August 3 Consumer Goods Production Movement, thereby increasing the availability of consumer goods, which are in short supply. The August 3 Consumer Goods Production Movement was so named after Kim Jong Il ordered that the consumer goods production using waste and by-products be expanded nationwide and involve all North Koreans when he provided field guidance at the Pyongyang City light industrial goods exhibition on August 3, 1984.

On August 7, the North Korean media reported that the 7th Rason International Trade Fair was opened.

 【Foreign Affairs】

On August 7, the North Korean media reported that the DPRK government, in a statement, denounced UN Security Council resolution 2371 as “a wanton violation of and a direct challenge to the sovereignty of the DPRK since it is a product of the US heinous hostile policy toward the DPRK to stifle the ideology, social system, and people in the DPRK,” flatly rejected the resolution, and threatened to retaliate against it one thousand times.

On August 8, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, in a statement, blasted UN Security Council resolution 2371 as “an extra-large terrorist act” and flatly rejected it.

On August 9, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for the General Staff Department of the Korean People’s Army (KPA), in a statement, criticized remarks against North Korea by the US officials including President Donald Trump (ready to go to war with North Korea, a military option, a preemptive strike, a decapitation operation to eliminate Kim Jong Un, etc.) and threatened the US by mentioning its military responses including “responding with an all-out war” and “a preemptive strike.”
