From September 2 to 3, the North Korean media reported on Kim Jong
Un’s public activities as follows: Kim 1) posed for a photo with the
participants in the fourth conference of active secretaries of primary
organizations of the youth league of the Korean People’s Army (KPA),
2) provided field guidance for nuclear weaponization, and 3) chaired a
meeting of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central
Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
On September 3, the North Korean media reported that the Nuclear
Weapons Institute, in a statement, officially announced that the sixth
nuclear test was conducted and was a success.
On September 4, the North Korean media reported that Premier Pak
Pong Ju made a field survey of the Taean Heavy Machine Complex.
On September 6, the North Korean media reported that a celebration
for teachers who volunteered to work at branch schools on islands and
schools on the front lines and in mountainous areas was held at the
Central Youth Hall on September 5.
On September 7, the North Korean media reported that a meeting to
mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Kyonghung
Restaurant was held on September 6.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
From September 5 to 8, the North Korean media reported that a
spokesperson for the Consultative Council for National Reconciliation,
in a statement, condemned the extension of the General Security of
Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) between South Korea and Japan
and the ROK government’s and the National Assembly’s response measures
regarding North Korea’s sixth nuclear test.
On September 8, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Korean Peace Advocacy National Committee, in a statement,
demanded the withdrawal of US forces from South Korea and called for
an anti-American and anti-war campaign on the occasion of the 72nd
anniversary of US forces’ presence in South Korea.
On September 8, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, in a
statement, denounced the ROK National Assembly for adopting a
resolution condemning North Korea’s sixth nuclear test and issued
threats.
【Foreign Affairs】
On September 5, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Q&A session with KCNA
reporters, blasted the US for pushing for a new UN Security Council
sanctions resolution against North Korea (at a UNSC emergency meeting
on September 4).
On September 7, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, in a statement, slammed
the move to impose sanctions and pressure on North Korea by South
Korea, the US, and Japan regarding the North’s sixth nuclear test and
issued threats.
