From September 10 to 12, the North Korean media reported on Kim Jong
Un’s public activities as follows: 1) Kim along with his wife, Ri Sol
Ju, attended an art performance dedicated to nuclear scientists and
technicians who contributed to the successful sixth nuclear test, 2)
threw a banquet to laud nuclear scientists and technicians, 3) posed
for a photo with the people who contributed to the successful sixth
nuclear test, and 4) took a picture with teachers who volunteered to
work at branch schools on islands and schools on the front lines and
in mountainous areas.
On September 12, the North Korean media reported that Premier Pak
Pong Ju made a field survey of the Sunchon Cement Complex and the
construction site for establishing the “carbon one chemical industry.”
From September 13 to 14, the North Korean media reported that a
national sci-tech presentation in the fields of the electric power
industry and fiber papers was held under the sponsorship of the
Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology
of Korea.
On September 14, the North Korean media reported that the Moranbong
Band, the State Merited Chorus, and the Wangjaesan Art Troupe began
their music and dance performances in Wonsan, Kangwon Province.
On September 14, the North Korean media reported that the 15th
national angling contest took place on the banks of the Pothong River.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On September 14, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Consultative Council for National Reconciliation, in a
statement, condemned the ROK government’s response to UN Security
Council resolution 2375 and issued threats.
On September 14, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Nationwide Emergency Measure Committee against DPRK-targeted
Nuclear War Exercises, in a statement, denounced the ROK government’s
deployment of more THAAD batteries and called for an anti-American and
anti-government campaign.
On September 15, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Consultative Council for National Reconciliation, in a
statement, blasted the ROK government’s policy on North Korea
(simultaneously pursuing sanctions on and dialogue with North Korea)
and called on the South to make a “responsible
choice.”
【Foreign Affairs】
On September 11, the North Korean media reported that the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, warned against the US move to seek
a UN Security Council sanctions resolution against North Korea
regarding the North’s sixth nuclear test.
On September 14, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, in a statement, slammed
the ROK, the US, Japan, and the UN Security Council for adopting UN
Security Council resolution 2375.
On September 13, the North Korean media reported that the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs totally rejected UN Security Council resolution 2375.
On September 15, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for American Studies, in a
Q&A session with KCNA reporters, condemned the Trump
administration regarding the possibility of redeploying American
tactical nuclear weapons to South Korea and developing miniaturized
nuclear bombs.
