media reported that Kim Jong Un visited the Chinese Embassy to express
his deep condolences over the death of Chinese tourists in a traffic
accident; organized and saw off a special train carrying the bodies of
Chinese tourists who were killed in a traffic accident in the North,
and the injured; and departed Pyeongyang for the inter-Korean summit meeting.
On April 21, the North Korean media reported that the 3rd Plenary
Meeting of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea
(WPK) took place.
On April 23, the North Korean media emphasized that the country
should carry through the new strategic line set forth by the WPK.
On April 25, the North Korean media emphasized “self-rehabilitation”
as the basic principle of the new strategic line set forth by the WPK.
On April 25, the North Korean media reported that Premier Pak Pong
Ju provided field guidance at the Namhung Youth Chemical Complex, the
Ryongnam Ship Repair Factory, and the Institute of Agricultural Science.
On April 24, the North Korean media reported that the construction
of the Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist area is progressing apace, the
underground excavation work was finished, and the erection of
frameworks above the ground had begun in earnest.
On April 23, the North Korean media reported that the 33rd national
festival of science and technology opened.
On April 25, the North Korean media reported that researchers of the
Korean Central History Museum recently unearthed a new mural tomb
dating to the Goguryeo Kingdom.
On April 26, the North Korean media reported that a meeting was held
by agricultural workers at a co-op farm in Anak County, South Hwanghae
Province to appeal to those across the country to launch a socialist
emulation for transplanting rice seedlings at the right time and in
the proper way this year.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On April 22, the North Korean media
reported that the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the
Reunification of Korea made public a memorandum on the exploits of
President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il, and the respected Supreme
Leader Kim Jong Un (who together provided the tradition of great
national unity) on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Joint
Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social
Organizations in South and North Korea.
On April 24, the North Korean media condemned the ROK’s plan for a
military build-up.
On April 26, the North Korean media denounced the South Korean
conservative parties’ remarks regarding inter-Korean relations and the
inter-Korean summit meeting.
【Foreign Affairs】
On April 26, the North Korean media reported
that Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman
of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of
Korea, together with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the
Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, and Pak Pong Ju, premier of the
Cabinet of the DPRK, sent a message of consolation to Chinese party
and state leaders including Xi Jinping, general secretary of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the
People’s Republic of China, over the death of Chinese tourists in a
traffic accident in North Korea.
On April 24, the North Korean media condemned the US’s 2017 Country
Reports on Human Rights Practices.
On April 27, the North Korean media blasted the US policy of
maintaining sanctions and pressure on North Korea.
On April 25, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for
the DPRK Measure Committee for Demanding Compensation to Comfort Women
for the Japanese Army and the Victims of Forcible Drafting, in a
statement, denounced Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for sending a
ritual offering and Japanese lawmakers for paying respects at the
Yasukuni Shrine for war dead, respectively.
On April 26, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for
the DPRK-Japan Exchange Association, in a statement, condemned
Japanese broadcaster NHK’s special “Kim Jong Un’s Ambition,” a
three-part TV series.
On April 22, the North Korean media blasted Japan’s moves to revise
its Constitution regarding the Self-Defense Forces.
On April 22, the North Korean media reported that a 2018 Women’s
International Democratic Federation solidarity march supporting the
just cause of the Korean people and women took place.
