On March 2-5, the North Korean media reported
that Kim Jong Un made a goodwill visit to Vietnam: he arrived in
Vietnam and held a summit with President Nguyen Phu Trong on March 2;
visited the Monument to Heroic Martyrs and President Ho Chi Minh’s
Mausoleum to pay respects and lay a wreath and left the country on
March 3; and arrived in Pyeongyang on March 5.
On March 2, the North Korean media reported that the North is
pushing ahead with the campaign to create forests, gardens, and
orchards across the country while encouraging the people to plant
trees in the spring on the occasion of Tree-Planting Day.
On March 4, the North Korean media propagandized the North’s most
popular, democratic election system ahead of the elections for
deputies to the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly.
On March 4, the North Korean media reported that a national meeting
was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the
Jonsung Revolutionary Museum.
On March 5, the North Korean media reported that Premier Pak Pong Ju
provided field guidance at the construction site for the second-stage
waterway project in South Hwanghae Province.
On March 8, the North Korean media reported that a central meeting
was held to mark the 109th anniversary of International Women’s Day.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On March 3, the North Korean media
promoted Kim Jong Un as an ideal leader for a unified Korea on the
occasion of the 7th anniversary of Kim’s visit to Panmunjeom.
On March 5, the North Korean media called on the South to stop the
ROK-US joint military exercises and the import of weapons.
On March 7, the North Korean media condemned the start of the ROK-US
joint military drills.
【Foreign Affairs】
On March 5, the North Korean media
reported on the history of friendly relations between the North and
Vietnam and the results of Kim’s visit to Vietnam.
On March 6, the North Korean media reported that the State General
Bureau of Tourism and Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism signed a
memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in tourism.
On March 8, the North Korean media denounced Japan’s response to the
collapse of the second North Korea-US summit while mentioning that the
US is responsible for it.
