On August 3 and 7, the North Korean media
reported that Kim Jong Un gave field guidance at the test firing of a
new “large-caliber” multiple rocket launcher early on August 2 and the
firing of a new tactical missile system early on August 6.
On August 7, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong provided field guidance at the Tanchon Magnesia Factory, the
Tanchon Smeltery, the Tanchon Mining Machine Factory, the Ryongyang
Mine, the Komdok Mining Complex, and the construction site of the
Tanchon Power Station.
On August 8, the North Korean media emphasized that top bureaucrats
should carry out projects boldly, actively, creatively, and with initiative.
On August 8, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong gave field guidance at the Mt. Paektu Museum, the Samjiyon
County Hall of Culture, the Samjiyon County People’s Hospital, hotels
in the county, the old home of Kim Jong Il in the secret camp on Mt.
Paektu (Baekdu), and the Junghung Farm.
On August 9, the North Korean media reported that the Presidium of
the Supreme People’s Assembly issued Decision No. 20 that the second
session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) will be held in
Pyeongyang on August 29.
On August 9, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong gave field guidance at the February 8 Vinalon Complex, the
Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the Ryongsong Machine Complex, the Hamhung
branch of the Academy of Sciences, and the Hungnam Pharmaceutical Factory.

On August 6, the North Korean media
condemned South Korea for considering the dispatch of its Navy’s
Cheonghae unit to the Strait of Hormuz.
On August 8, the North Korean media reported that the Reunification
and Agitation Department of the Committee for the Peaceful
Reunification of the Country (CPRC), in an open letter, denounced the
ROK-US joint military exercises, the ROK’s independent exercises, and
the ROK’s military buildup.
On August 8, the North Korean media blasted the ROK government’s
comment referring to “momentum for dialogue” as a “modern-day Janus.”
On August 9, the North Korean media denounced the South’s claim that
the North’s military measures have brought about a security crisis.
【Foreign Affairs】
On August 6, the North Korean media
reported that a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a
statement, condemned the ROK-US joint military exercises, claiming
that they are an act of blatant disregard and an obvious violation of
the June 12 Joint Statement and the inter-Korean
declarations.
On August 7, the North Korean media blasted the Tokyo Olympic
Organizing Committee for openly posting on a website a map showing the
Dokdo Islets as Japanese territory and the East Sea of Korea as the
“Sea of Japan.”
