that Kim Jong Un gave field guidance at the test firing of a new
weapon on August 10.
On August 12, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong provided field guidance at the Cholima Steel Complex and the
Taean Friendship Glass Factory.
On August 13, the North Korean media reported that Kim Jong Un, who
also serves as head of the DPRK ruling party’s Central Military
Commission, issued “Order No. 008” on August 12 to elevate the ranks
of scientists who “have made great contributions to upgrading the
military capabilities for self-defense.”
On August 13, the North Korean media reported that Pak Pong Ju,
vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea
(WPK), gave field guidance at the Taean Heavy Machine Complex.
On August 15, the North Korean media reported that Pak Pong Ju,
vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee, provided field guidance at
the East Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On August 10, the North Korean media
condemned the South’s modernization of military equipment including
the introduction of F-35A fighters and a plan to redeploy ground
forces, claiming that “It is clearly part of tactics for war
preparations against the DPRK.”
On August 11, the North Korean media reported that Kwon Jong Gun,
director general of the Department of American Affairs at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, denounced the ROK-US joint
military exercises for the second half of this year from August 11 to 20.
On August 14, the North Korean media blasted the construction of the
facilities for the THAAD base and the deployment of intermediate-range missiles.
On August 16, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country
(CPRC), in a statement, criticized President Moon Jae-in’s
congratulatory speech marking National Liberation Day.
【Foreign Affairs】
On August 11, the North Korean media
reported that a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a
Q&A session with KCNA reporters, expressed support for China
regarding the Hong Kong situation.
On August 15, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the Association of Korean Victims of Forcible Drafting and Their
Bereaved Families, in a statement, called on Japan to make a sincere
apology and pay complete compensation.
On August 15, the North Korean media reported that Kim Jong Un and
Russian President Putin exchanged greetings on the occasion of the
74th anniversary of independence of Korea.
