reported that Kim Jong Un participated in the 8th Congress of the
Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) from January 9 to 11 (fourth, fifth, and
sixth days of the eight-day party congress) and presided over the
first plenary meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK on
January 11; gave the closing speech at the 8th Party Congress; visited
the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun with the members of the 8th party
central leadership body on January 13; watched a performance
celebrating the 8th Party Congress at Pyongyang Gymnasium on January
14; attended, now as general secretary, a military parade
commemorating the 8th Party Congress and posed for a commemorative
photo with the delegates for the 8th Party Congress on January
15.

(WPK).

condemned the remarks made by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea
regarding the military parade at the 8th Party Congress.

On January 11, the North Korean
media reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory
message to Kim Jong Un for his election as general secretary of the
Workers’ Party of Korea.
On January 13, the North Korean
media reported that General Secretary Kim Jong Un sent a reply to the
Chinese President’s congratulatory message.
